Folding stairs are built to withstand the toughest industrial environments. Most models are crafted from carbon steel, stainless steel and galvanized steel, ensuring durability and resistance to corrosion.
Ever tried walking on a slippery surface in work boots? Much Dangers. Folding stairs come equipped with anti-skid steps, often made from serrated or dentiform grid plates, to provide secure footing even in wet or oily conditions.
One of the coolest features of folding stairs is their self-leveling treads. Thanks to a four-bar mechanism or parallelogram design, the steps stay parallel to the ground as the stairs adjust to different tanker heights. It’s like having a personal escalator that ensures you’re always walking on a flat, stable surface, reducing the risk of trips and falls.
Lifting and lowering folding stairs could be a workout, but spring cylinder balancing makes it a breeze. This system counterbalances the stairs’ weight, allowing a single operator to deploy or retract them with minimal effort.
Folding stairs deliver with sturdy handrails and optional safety cages. Handrails, often at least 1100mm high, provide support as you climb, while safety cages—fixed or movable—surround the operator to prevent falls.
When not in use, folding stairs fold flat or retract to a near-vertical position (around 80°), taking up minimal space on the platform. This is a fantastic solution for busy facilities where space is at a premium. It’s like folding up a camping chair after a picnic—neat, tidy, and out of the way.
To protect both the tanker and the stairs, many models feature oil-resistant rubber bumpers at the contact points. Safety chains or locking devices keep the stairs secure when deployed or parked, preventing accidental movement.
No two facilities are alike, and folding stairs are designed with flexibility in mind. They come in various step counts (typically 3, 4, or 5, with custom options for 6) and can be tailored with extras like lateral platforms, knee guides, or pneumatic operation.
Folding stairs are designed to fit a wide range of applications, from tank trucks to railcars and ISO containers. While specifications vary by manufacturer and model, here’s a snapshot of what you can expect, based on industry standards:
Carbon steel, galvanized steel or stainless steel. Galvanized options offer superior corrosion resistance.
Standard configurations include 3, 4, or 5 steps, with custom options for 6. The number of steps depends on the height difference between the platform and the tanker.
Typically 600-610mm for comfortable footing, with extra-wide options available for bulk loading.
Most folding stairs operate between +45° and -45°, allowing access to tankers of varying heights.
Minimum 1100mm from the step tread surface for maximum safety.
Designed to support heavy loads, often exceeding 250kg, ensuring they can handle operators and their equipment.
Manual (spring-balanced), pneumatic, or hydraulic. Pneumatic systems are ideal for larger units, offering smooth, effortless movement.
Anti-slip steps, self-leveling treads, handrails, safety cages (1.5m or 3m wide), rubber bumpers, safety chains, and locking mechanisms.
Parks at approximately 80° to minimize platform footprint.
Folding stairs are the go-to choice for industries that handle tankers, railcars, or ISO containers.
Here are some common applications:
Accessing tankers for loading, unloading, or inspecting petroleum products.
Safe access to chemical tankers for sampling or maintenance.
Inspecting food-grade tankers to ensure quality and hygiene.
Accessing ISO containers for sterile or hazardous materials.
Handling cement, powders, or aggregates in railcars.
Designed for loading of bulk tank cars, high safety standard
Easy installation, operational immediately after bolt-on
Minimum space occupation when folded
